             CARUSO
QUALIFIES ON POLE FOR RACE 2
              Wakefield Park, Qualifying 2 - 31/5/03

The second qualifying session at 2.40pm was a hard fought affair.
James Cressey's team had worked hard between sessions to repair
his damaged racecar, finishing it just in time for Cressey to make
it out, with no set up work done.
Early in the session, it was Jones who set the benchmark, followed
by Hackett and Caruso. By the 5-minute mark, Barton Mawer and Alan
Gurr had both emerged from the pack. Caruso was languishing in tenth
with a 0:57.913 and Jones topped the sheets with a 0:55.675 with
Gurr, Mawer and Fitzgerald in 56s.
As the tyres came in, the times dropped and Barton Mawer went quickest
with a 0:54.472. The BRM trio of Fitzgerald, Palmer and Reindler
were bunched together in fifth, sixth and seventh places.
Mawer still led from Jones mid-session, and Caruso improved to third
place with Alan Gurr close behind. Hackett, Reindler and Fitzgerald
were circulating together in the 55s. Hackett appeared to struggle
to find more speed and despite some improvements stayed fifth.
The order was Mawer, Caruso, Jones, Gurr, Hackett and Reindler with
Cressey in tenth. Darren Palmer was having a better session recording
a 0:54.495 to move him up to sixth, while Cressey marginally improved
              to ninth.
As time started to run out, things got hectic. Caruso went to the
top of the sheet with a 0:54.622 followed by Jones, Mawer and Hackett.

In the Yokohama Trophy class the action was getting exciting. Coombs
had been the early leader with Borg and Maddocks following. But
Maddocks, who was feeling much, more comfortable in the car, pulled
out a 0:59.4804 to move ahead of Coombs with Borg third ahead of
              David Choon.
Caruso and Jones continued to dominate at the top, but late in the
session, Alan Gurr pulled out a 0:54.6832 to move to third place
pushing Mawer down to fourth, ahead of Hackett, who was having gearbox
              problems.
The order remained the same till the end of the session. The Yokohama
Trophy class pole went to Billy Maddocks in the excellent time of
0:58.5211, followed by Chris Coombs and David Borg who enjoyed a
              muddy sight-seeing adventure
after the chequered flag came
              out.
